Wanga Declares ODM Will Demand 50-50 Power-Sharing in Future Coalitions

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has announced that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) will push for a 50-50 power-sharing arrangement in any coalition agreement ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking after a special delegates’ conference, Wanga said party leaders have been formally authorized to begin negotiations with potential political partners, signaling a shift in ODM’s strategy as it positions itself for future alliances.

“The delegates gave us the green light to start these negotiations, and our position is clear: it must be a 50-50 deal,” she stated.

The governor emphasized that ODM is no longer willing to take up junior roles in coalition governments, insisting that the party’s strength and national influence must be reflected in any power-sharing framework.

Wanga also highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures across the country, noting that ODM remains firmly rooted in its support base. She dismissed claims of internal divisions, maintaining that the majority of elected leaders are loyal to the party and its leadership.

She expressed confidence that the party’s current strategy will secure its position as a dominant political force beyond the 2027 elections, both at the county and national levels.

The announcement signals ODM’s intent to negotiate from a position of strength as political realignments begin to take shape ahead of the next electoral cycle.
