The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has moved to clear the air regarding missing polling station details on the national voter register, attributing the issue to ongoing system updates.
Voters attempting to verify their registration status through the online portal recently raised concerns after noticing that specific polling station names and numbers were unavailable. However, the Commission has assured the public that the omission is temporary and part of a broader update process.
According to IEBC, the system is currently being updated to accommodate a high number of new voters who were registered during the recent voter registration exercise. As a result, polling station details are yet to be finalized.
The Commission explained that under existing electoral regulations, polling stations are assigned based on a fixed number of voters per stream to enhance efficiency during elections. With the number of registered voters still being consolidated, it is not yet possible to assign definitive polling stations.
“The details are temporarily unavailable on the voter portal as we integrate the new data,” IEBC said in a statement. “Once the registration exercise officially ends and the data is cleaned, every voter will be assigned to their correct polling station in accordance with the law.”
IEBC further reassured Kenyans that all voter data remains secure despite the temporary changes and emphasized that the updates are necessary to ensure a smooth and well-organized voting process.
Voters have been urged to remain patient as the Commission finalizes the register, noting that the updates are aimed at preventing congestion and improving efficiency at polling stations on election day.
