Unity and peaceful coexistence took center stage in Malindi on Sunday as local leaders joined the Luhya community to celebrate the installation of new leadership for the ‘Obuhambani Bwa Abaluhya Umbrella Unity Group.’

The event, held at the Barani Secondary School grounds in Malindi town, Kilifi County, saw Malindi Member of Parliament Amina Mnyazi and Shella Ward MCA Twahir Abdulrahman join hundreds of residents to witness the official installation of Wilson Ahonga as the group’s new chairman.

Addressing the gathering, MP Mnyazi praised the Luhya community for their organized approach to welfare and unity, noting that such associations are vital for social stability. She urged all residents of Malindi, regardless of their ethnic or political backgrounds, to prioritize peace and support one another to foster development in the region.

“Malindi is a melting pot of different cultures. Our strength lies in our diversity, and it is heartening to see communities organizing themselves not for division, but for unity and mutual support,” Mnyazi said.

The newly installed chairman, Wilson Ahonga, pledged to use his position to bridge gaps within the community and ensure that the ‘Obuhambani Bwa Abaluhya’ remains a pillar of peace in Kilifi County. He echoed the leaders’ calls for harmony, stating that the group’s primary objective is to empower its members while integrating fully with the local coastal culture.

MCA Twahir Abdulrahman reinforced the message of cohesion, reminding the attendees that political seasons should not be allowed to fracture the long-standing relationships between the various communities residing in the tourism hub.

The meeting concluded with a call for continued dialogue among community elders to ensure that Malindi remains a peaceful environment for business and residency.
