Shanghai, China, is hosting the largest edition of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance, bringing together global technology leaders, policymakers, researchers and innovators to explore the future of artificial intelligence.

Held under the theme “AI Partnership for a Brighter Future,” the 2026 conference has set new records, with its exhibition expanding to more than 100,000 square metres for the first time in the event’s history. The exhibition is spread across four major venues in Pudong, Zhangjiang and Xuhui districts.

More than 1,100 domestic and international enterprises are participating in the event, while over 1,400 distinguished guests from around the world are attending discussions on artificial intelligence, innovation and global governance.

The conference is showcasing more than 3,000 AI technologies and products, including over 300 making their global debut, underscoring the rapid pace of innovation within the industry.

Among the headline innovations are Huawei’s Atlas 950 super node system and the Sugon 8000 domestic AI supercluster, both designed to enhance high-performance computing capabilities and support the development of advanced artificial intelligence applications.

In addition to the exhibition, the conference features more than 140 specialized forums, where experts are discussing emerging AI technologies, scientific research, industrial applications and international frameworks for AI governance.

The high-level meeting on Global AI Governance is expected to focus on promoting international cooperation, encouraging responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence, and addressing challenges related to ethics, regulation, security and sustainability.

The record-breaking scale of WAIC 2026 reflects the growing global importance of artificial intelligence as governments, businesses and researchers seek to harness the technology to drive economic growth, scientific advancement and digital transformation across multiple sectors.
