Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Trans Nzoia West have launched investigations into the murder of a night watchman who was killed during a break-in at a boarding school in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.
According to investigators, a group of armed suspects raided the school under the cover of darkness, targeting valuables kept within the institution. During the attack, the night watchman was fatally assaulted while attempting to protect the premises.
Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made so far, but specialized investigative teams are pursuing forensic leads and other evidence to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over the security of learning institutions in Trans Nzoia County, particularly in Saboti Sub-County, where schools have increasingly become targets of criminal gangs seeking to steal valuable property.
Authorities say criminals have in recent months targeted institutions for items such as television sets, electronic equipment, office supplies and food stores, leaving schools vulnerable to repeated break-ins and theft.
Several schools in the area, including Sikulu Secondary School, Kinyoro Secondary School and Nakami Friends School, have reportedly experienced similar security incidents, prompting calls for enhanced security measures.
Detectives are continuing with investigations as they work to establish the identities of the attackers, recover any stolen property and bring those responsible to justice.
Security agencies have urged members of the public to share any information that could assist investigators in solving the case and preventing further attacks on educational institutions.
