SEME, KENYA — The Seme community is in mourning following the death of Mzee Eliud Nyikal Okaka, father of Seme Member of Parliament James Nyikal.
The legislator announced the passing of his father on Saturday, April 11, in a brief message, describing his life as one “well celebrated” before he “went to be with the Lord.”
Mzee Okaka was widely respected as a pillar of the community, recognized for his longstanding contribution to education and grassroots development in Kisumu County.
Leaders from across the country have sent messages of condolence to the family and residents of Seme, led by Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
“Mzee Nyikal was a distinguished elder whose values of integrity and selfless service are clearly reflected in the work of his son,” Governor Nyong’o said in his tribute.
Suna East MP Junet Mohamed also mourned the deceased, describing his death as a significant loss to both the family and the wider community.
Residents and leaders alike have taken to social media to share messages of support, remembering Mzee Okaka for his wisdom, mentorship, and enduring legacy within the Seme constituency.
Details regarding the cause of death and funeral arrangements have not yet been made public, with the family indicating that communication on burial plans will be shared in due course.
