Shabana FC interim coach Mark Ongwae has praised his team’s tactical discipline following a narrow 1-0 victory over Kuta Collections FC, securing the “Glamour Boys” a place in the Mozzart Bet Cup quarter-finals.

In a tightly contested Round of 16 clash at Wang’uru Stadium, Shabana overcame a determined lower-tier opponent, with a clinical first-half goal proving decisive. The win keeps alive the club’s ambitions of lifting their first Mozzart Bet Cup title and earning a spot in continental football.

“We knew coming into this match that lower-tier teams always raise their game against top-flight opposition. I am proud of the boys for staying professional and maintaining their shape under pressure,” Ongwae said after the match.

“The goal was to progress to the last eight, and we have achieved that. We take it one game at a time from here,” he added.

The weekend’s fixtures delivered both expected results and major upsets across the country. The biggest shock came in Eldoret, where Division One side Mfalme FC stunned Premier League outfit Murang’a Seal with a commanding 5-1 victory, emerging as early contenders for a deep cup run.

Elsewhere, Kenya Police FC and Tusker FC booked their quarter-final spots with hard-fought 1-0 wins over BB Bread and Kariobangi Sharks, respectively.

With the quarter-final lineup now taking shape, attention shifts to the upcoming draw as Shabana FC awaits its next opponent in the quest for silverware.
