ROME, ITALY — President William Ruto has cautioned Kenyans living abroad against relying solely on social media for news about the country, warning that many platforms are rife with misinformation and misleading content.

Speaking to members of the Kenyan diaspora in Rome on Monday, the President said some individuals are deliberately spreading false information for political and personal gain, painting an inaccurate picture of the country.

“If you go to social media today, you’ll think there is nothing good happening in Kenya,” Ruto said, urging Kenyans abroad to verify information before accepting it as fact.

The Head of State, who is on an official visit to Italy, reassured the diaspora that the government’s development agenda remains firmly on course despite ongoing criticism.

“My focus is not about the next General Election. I am focused on transforming Kenya,” he said.

Ruto acknowledged that Kenya’s progress has previously been slowed by poor leadership, but maintained that his administration is prepared to make difficult decisions to steer the country toward long-term growth and stability.

He emphasized the importance of staying informed through credible sources, noting that accurate information is key to maintaining trust and unity among Kenyans both at home and abroad.
