NAIROBI, KENYA — Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has issued a stern warning to organizers of planned demonstrations over rising fuel prices, cautioning that previous unrest cost the country billions in lost revenue.

Speaking during a press briefing, Dr. Mwaura revealed that data from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) showed the country lost approximately KSh 6 billion in tax revenue during past protests.

“It is important to highlight that during the last protests, Kenya incurred losses amounting to KSh 6 billion, according to figures from the KRA,” Mwaura said. “Therefore, anyone calling for further protests risks harming the very youths they claim to represent.”

He warned that a fresh wave of demonstrations could push the country into what he described as a “fourth economic crisis,” undermining livelihoods and slowing down economic recovery efforts.

The remarks come amid growing mobilization by activists under the #RejectFuelPrices banner, driven by concerns over the high cost of living and recent fuel price increases.

Mwaura defended the government’s handling of the situation, stating that the administration remains focused on stabilizing the economy despite ongoing global fuel supply disruptions.

He urged those aggrieved to avoid street protests and instead pursue structured dialogue, arguing that continued disruptions would only worsen the financial strain on ordinary citizens.

The government maintains that sustained stability and cooperation are key to protecting economic gains and ensuring long-term recovery.
