The Pioneer Affordable Housing Project in Eldoret has entered its final phase of construction, bringing Uasin Gishu County closer to delivering one of the largest affordable housing developments under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP).
Once completed, the project will provide 2,148 affordable housing units spread across 15 residential blocks, alongside 104 commercial shops and a range of social amenities designed to create a modern, self-sustaining community.
The development is expected to ease the growing demand for decent and affordable housing in Eldoret while supporting the government’s broader agenda of increasing home ownership and stimulating economic growth through infrastructure development.
According to project officials, construction is progressing steadily, with final finishing works underway before the houses are handed over to successful applicants.
The project forms part of the national Affordable Housing Programme, which seeks to provide quality and affordable homes to Kenyans while creating employment opportunities in the construction sector and related industries.
Kenyans interested in owning a unit have been encouraged to register through the Boma Yangu platform by dialing *832# on their mobile phones or creating an account on the official portal using their national identification details.
After registration, applicants can begin making voluntary savings towards their preferred housing units. The programme allows contributors to save at their own pace, making home ownership accessible to both salaried and informal sector workers.
Once an applicant reaches the required savings threshold and qualifies for a specific housing category, they are eligible to select their preferred unit. Allocation is conducted through an automated and transparent system based on an applicant’s savings history and eligibility requirements.
The housing programme has been structured to benefit a wide range of Kenyans, including low-income earners, informal traders, boda boda operators, civil servants and middle-income households.
Under the programme, social housing units are expected to attract monthly payments starting from approximately KSh 3,000, while affordable and market-rate units will vary depending on their size and category.
In addition to residential units, the Pioneer project will feature commercial spaces, improved road networks, water and sewerage infrastructure, recreational areas and other essential social amenities aimed at creating a vibrant urban neighbourhood.
Government officials say the project is expected to generate significant economic benefits by creating employment opportunities, supporting local businesses and contributing to the continued growth of Eldoret as a major urban centre.
The Pioneer Affordable Housing Project is among several flagship developments being implemented across the country as part of the government’s plan to expand access to decent housing, reduce the national housing deficit and promote inclusive urban development beyond Nairobi.
