The Linda Mwananchi movement has raised KSh 2,210,836.82 within a short period after launching a public fundraising campaign aimed at supporting its grassroots political activities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The initiative, spearheaded by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, invited Kenyans to make voluntary contributions through publicly available donation channels to finance the movement’s operations across the country.
According to the movement, the fundraising campaign attracted support from grassroots supporters, young professionals and Kenyans living in the diaspora, pushing the total amount raised to more than KSh 2.2 million.
Organizers also made the fundraising dashboard publicly accessible, saying the move was intended to promote transparency and accountability by allowing supporters to track the amount collected in real time.
The movement said the funds will be used to facilitate nationwide mobilization tours, organize public town hall meetings, strengthen grassroots structures and support legal representation for activists facing court cases linked to political activities.
Speaking after the fundraising milestone, Senator Edwin Sifuna thanked Kenyans for their overwhelming support, saying the contributions demonstrate growing public confidence in the movement’s vision for the country.
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya also expressed appreciation to supporters, describing the successful fundraiser as evidence that many Kenyans are willing to invest in what he termed a citizen-driven political movement.
The fundraising initiative marks a departure from traditional political financing models that have often relied on wealthy individuals, business interests and influential political figures to bankroll campaigns.
Instead, Linda Mwananchi says it is embracing a grassroots funding model built on small individual donations from ordinary citizens, arguing that such an approach enhances accountability by making the movement answerable to its supporters rather than a few powerful financiers.
The movement maintains that its crowdfunding strategy reflects its commitment to transparency, with organizers pledging to continue providing regular updates on funds received and how they are utilized.
The successful fundraising campaign comes as Linda Mwananchi intensifies its nationwide mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders holding public engagements and recruiting supporters across different regions.
Political observers say the initiative could influence how political movements finance their activities in the future by encouraging greater public participation and reducing dependence on traditional sources of campaign funding.
