The Chairperson of Pwani Innovation Week 2026, Dr. Kevit Desai, has said this year’s edition of the annual innovation event will play a critical role in promoting young women and men with innovative ideas while strengthening youth-led entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.
Speaking during a press briefing held on Thursday at Sapphire Hotel in Mombasa, Dr. Desai noted that Pwani Innovation Week has, over the last ten years, proven to be a key platform for nurturing innovation and creating sustainable economic opportunities for young people.
He said the event has significantly contributed to job creation by identifying and supporting innovative ideas that have grown into successful businesses.
> “Over the last ten years, Pwani Innovation Week has demonstrated its importance in job creation. Through this event, innovative ideas have been identified, leading to the creation of nearly 4,000 enterprises,” said Dr. Desai.
Dr. Desai further revealed that the 7th Edition of Pwani Innovation Week, hosted by Swahilipot Hub Foundation, is expected to attract innovators, entrepreneurs, investors and development partners from across the region, stretching from Mozambique to Somalia, as well as participants from all parts of Kenya.
He said the event will provide innovators with a platform to showcase groundbreaking ideas, exchange knowledge, build strategic partnerships and explore opportunities for business growth and investment.
The press briefing also marked the official launch of preparations for Pwani Innovation Week 2026 and the beginning of Swahilipot Hub Foundation’s 10th anniversary celebrations. Over the past decade, the foundation has empowered thousands of young people through innovation, technology, entrepreneurship and skills development.
Organisers said this year’s event will bring together government representatives, the private sector, development partners, academia, innovators, the media and members of the public to celebrate innovation as a key driver of economic growth, employment and sustainable development.
