Ndindi Nyoro Proposes Plan for Free Senior Secondary Education in Kenya

LONDON — Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has proposed a plan to provide free senior secondary education in Kenya through a pooled funding model, aiming to ease the financial burden on students and families.

Speaking to Kenyans living and working in the United Kingdom, Nyoro outlined a strategy to mobilize KSh 30 billion from three main sources: KSh 10 billion from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), KSh 10 billion from the equitable share allocated to county governments, and KSh 10 billion from the national government’s budget.

The proposed fund, dubbed the “Kenya Day Secondary Schools Kitty,” would cover all student expenses, including meals, and is expected to benefit an estimated three to four million students enrolled in senior secondary schools across the country.
