World’s biggest floating University, MV World Odyssey docks at the port of Mombasa carrying 609 students and 183 crew members.Popularly known as the ‘Semester at Sea’ the vessel arrived from Cochin, India, marking its sixth visit to Mombasa. Onboard are three Kenyans; one student and two lecturers.
During its stay in Mombasa, students are expected to participate in educational field visits, cultural exchange activities, and community engagement programmes. Key areas of focus include Kenya’s coastal heritage, diverse tourism, and socio-economic development.
Port authorities and local tourism stakeholders have welcomed the vessel, noting that the visit not only boosts the local economy but also positions Mombasa as a global hub for education tourism, cruise tourism and cultural diplomacy.
The visit is expected to boost tourism related trade, as this cruise yet again creates an avenue for local traders. MV World Odyssey is expected to dock at the port of Mombasa for the next six days.
