MOMBASA, KENYA — Mombasa United have officially appointed Peter Okidi as their new Head Coach, confirming his unveiling on April 29, 2026.

The appointment ends days of speculation following earlier reports linking Okidi to the coastal club. He takes over from Gilbert Selebwa and is tasked with steering the team toward promotion from the National Super League (NSL) to the top-tier Kenyan Premier League.

Club officials described the move as a strategic step aimed at strengthening their technical bench during a crucial phase of the season, with promotion ambitions firmly in focus.

Okidi arrives in Mombasa following a brief but impressive stint at Shabana FC, where he earned recognition as the FKF Premier League Coach of the Month for February 2026 before parting ways with the club in mid-March.

His immediate test will come this weekend when he takes charge of a high-stakes top-of-the-table clash against league leaders Migori Youth. The match is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at the Mombasa Sports Club.

The fixture is expected to be a defining moment in Mombasa United’s promotion campaign, with Okidi now under pressure to deliver results and close the gap at the top of the table.
