A man has died after allegedly slipping and sustaining fatal head injuries while attempting to climb a perimeter wall at a residential compound in Athi River, Machakos County.
The deceased was identified as Charles Musyoka Ndile, whose body was discovered on Sunday morning lying face down near the inner wall of a second security gate within the compound.
Police have launched investigations into the incident, which they believe occurred during the night after Ndile and a colleague returned from a drinking spree.
According to preliminary investigations, Ndile had spent part of the evening drinking with a co-worker at a nearby shopping centre before the two headed back to their residence at around 9:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, they reportedly found both the main entrance gate and a secondary security gate locked.
Investigators say the pair managed to gain access past the first gate, but the inner gate remained locked, preventing them from reaching their residence through the normal route.
Police reports indicate that Ndile’s colleague left him near the locked gate before climbing over the secondary perimeter wall and proceeding to his room to sleep.
Detectives believe Ndile later attempted to scale the wall on his own but slipped during the climb.
He is suspected to have struck the right side of his face against the concrete wall before falling to the ground, suffering injuries that proved fatal.
His body remained at the scene until Sunday morning when a farm worker discovered him lying motionless near the wall.
The worker immediately informed the property owner, who reported the incident to police.
Officers visited the scene, documented the area and processed it as part of the ongoing investigation.
The body was later moved to a local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to establish the exact cause of death and confirm the nature of the injuries sustained.
Police have recorded statements from witnesses, including the deceased’s colleague, as they continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
Authorities have urged members of the public to exercise caution and avoid attempting to climb perimeter walls or other hazardous structures, particularly after consuming alcohol, noting that such actions can result in serious injury or loss of life.
