William Ruto hosted members of the Muslim community for an Iftar dinner at State House Mombasa in Mombasa, bringing together religious leaders, political leaders and residents to mark the holy month of Ramadan.
During the gathering, President Ruto said the occasion offered an important opportunity for reflection, gratitude and unity among Kenyans of different faiths and backgrounds.
He noted that Kenya draws strength from its diversity, emphasizing that shared moments such as Iftar help reinforce values of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and national unity.
The President also commended the Muslim community for its continued contribution to the country’s social, economic and cultural development.
He said the community’s dedication to faith, family and service remains a key pillar in building a more cohesive and prosperous nation.
Speaking during the event, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, Governor of Mombasa County, called for stronger collaboration between the Coast region and the national government.
The governor noted that the region had for many years faced marginalization and underdevelopment, but expressed optimism that the situation is beginning to change through increased cooperation with the national leadership.
He said residents are now accessing national identity cards more easily and that Mombasa currently leads the country in registration under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Governor Nassir also highlighted the long-standing squatter land challenge in the Coast region, saying the issue is now receiving national attention, including efforts to support land acquisition from willing landowners.
He further welcomed the establishment of the National Infrastructure Fund, urging the government to ensure that the Coast region benefits from targeted development projects aimed at addressing historical inequalities.
According to the governor, the push for development is not about political competition but about ensuring justice, dignity and equal opportunities for the people of the Coast.
The event was attended by several leaders including Oburu Oginga and other regional leaders who joined members of the Muslim community in observing the evening Iftar meal.
