Kariobangi Sharks FC produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat Shabana FC 2-1 in a thrilling FKF Premier League match played at Gusii Stadium in Kisii on Sunday.
The Round 24 encounter saw Shabana enter the match as favourites, sitting third on the table with 40 points from 24 matches, while Kariobangi Sharks were struggling near the relegation zone in 14th place with 22 points.
Shabana Strike First
The first half ended goalless as both sides struggled to break through defensively.
However, the hosts eventually broke the deadlock early in the second half when midfielder Brian Michira scored in the 50th minute, giving Shabana a 1-0 lead and sending the home crowd into celebration.
Sharks Turn the Game Around
Just when Shabana looked set to secure an important home victory, Kariobangi Sharks produced a stunning turnaround late in the match.
Forward Razel Omondi equalised in the 80th minute, bringing the visitors back into the contest.
Only a minute later, Mark Vivan Kesa completed the comeback in the 81st minute, scoring the decisive goal that flipped the scoreline from 1-0 to 2-1 in favour of the Sharks.
The quick-fire double left the home supporters stunned as Kariobangi Sharks seized control of the match.
Shabana Fail to Respond
Despite creating several chances in the closing minutes, Shabana were unable to break down the determined Sharks defence.
Kariobangi held firm until the final whistle to secure a valuable away victory.
Impact on the League Table
The defeat leaves Shabana still on 40 points, dealing a blow to their ambitions in the title race. Their next fixture will be a tough away match against Gor Mahia FC.
For Kariobangi Sharks, the win lifts them to 25 points with five wins, ten draws and nine losses, giving them crucial breathing space in their battle to avoid relegation.
The result also marks one of the biggest surprises of the 2025/26 FKF Premier League season, and only the second recent victory for Kariobangi Sharks over Shabana in their recent meetings. ⚽
