Shimoni, Kwale CountyFatuma Achani has officially launched the Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, marking the start of a nationwide drive by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to register new voters.

The launch event, held in Shimoni, Lungalunga Sub-County, was attended by Erastus Edung Ethekon, alongside county officials, local leaders and residents.

Addressing the gathering, Achani urged eligible residents, particularly the youth, to participate in the exercise, noting the role of voter registration in strengthening democratic processes.

“This exercise is not just about numbers, but about ensuring every eligible citizen has a voice in shaping the leadership and future of our country,” she said.

Ethekon said the Commission is committed to ensuring the registration process is transparent and inclusive, with efforts aimed at reaching underserved communities.

The Commission indicated that the exercise will be conducted across all counties, with officials deployed to various centres to improve access. Special attention will be given to first-time voters, including those who have recently turned 18.

Residents have been advised to present valid identification documents, including a national identity card or passport, at designated registration centres within the set period.

The voter registration exercise is part of the Commission’s broader efforts to enhance participation in the electoral process ahead of upcoming elections.
