Fatuma Achani, Governor of Kwale County, has launched the construction of three cabro roads in Diani aimed at improving infrastructure and strengthening the region’s reputation as one of Kenya’s leading tourism destinations.
The projects are located in Ukunda Ward and Bongwe Gombato Ward within Msambweni Sub-County.
The roads include the KPLC Offices–Catholic Road, Moiz–Veterinary Road, and a key access road linking Gurumbe Mini Port to Watatu Watano, which are expected to enhance mobility for residents and visitors in the area.
Speaking during the launch ceremony, Governor Achani said improving road infrastructure in Diani is crucial in supporting tourism, local businesses and general movement within the region.
“Better infrastructure will not only ease movement for residents but also attract more investors and visitors to Kwale County,” the governor said.
The governor noted that the projects are part of the county government’s broader plan to enhance accessibility, boost economic opportunities and support development within local communities.
Diani Beach is widely regarded as one of the top tourist destinations in Kenya, and county leaders believe that improved infrastructure will further enhance its attractiveness to both local and international visitors.
Several leaders and county officials attended the launch event, including Hamisi Kitengele, the Member of County Assembly for Ukunda Ward, and Tumaini Mwachaunga, the MCA for Bongwe Gombato Ward.
Other officials present included Chief Officer Anthony Mwamunga, Political Advisor Mshenga Ruga, Chief of Staff Joshua Mdoe and Mahmud Rajab.
Representatives from the local transport sector and religious community also attended the event, including the chairperson of the Diani Bodaboda Operators Association and Raphael Miru of Diani Catholic Church.
County officials say the cabro road projects will improve accessibility within the wards, support tourism activities and create opportunities for small businesses operating in the region.
