League leaders Gor Mahia FC strengthened their grip at the top of the Kenyan Premier League table after securing a convincing 3-1 victory against Ulinzi Stars FC at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday.
The visitors wasted no time asserting their dominance, with midfielder Enock Morrison opening the scoring in the 10th minute from the penalty spot to give Gor Mahia an early advantage.
After heading into the halftime break with a narrow 1-0 lead, Gor Mahia returned for the second half determined to seal the result. Forward Patrick Essombe doubled the lead in the 69th minute, finishing off a well-worked attacking move to put the defending champions firmly in control.
Just eight minutes later, Shariff Musa added the third goal in the 77th minute, effectively putting the game beyond the reach of the hosts.
Ulinzi Stars managed to pull one back through Odhiambo late in the match, but the goal proved to be only a consolation as Gor Mahia comfortably saw out the game.
The victory sees Gor Mahia extend their lead at the top of the Kenyan Premier League standings to 53 points, opening a 10-point gap over second-placed AFC Leopards.
Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars continue to struggle near the bottom of the table and currently sit 17th with 19 points.
Looking ahead, Gor Mahia will face Shabana FC in their next league fixture, while Ulinzi Stars are set to take on Nairobi United FC as they seek to bounce back from the defeat.
