Gladys Wanga, Governor of Homa Bay County, has issued an Executive Order nominating a new Deputy Governor and announcing changes within the County Executive Committee following a vacancy in the deputy governor’s office.

In the order dated March 16, 2026, the Governor nominated Danish Otieno Onyango to serve as Deputy Governor, subject to approval by the County Assembly.

Onyango, a seasoned public servant, previously served in senior roles within government, rising to the level of Undersecretary in the State Department of Infrastructure. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Political Science and Public Administration and a Master’s degree in Development Studies from University of Nairobi.

He will continue serving as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Roads and Public Works, where he has overseen significant infrastructure development, including the expansion of road networks across all wards in the county.

According to the Governor, the county opened 736 kilometres of new roads and maintained 538 kilometres during the 2024/25 financial year, alongside rehabilitating 116 kilometres of access roads to improve connectivity to key public facilities.

Further nominations include Elijah Obiny Dede, who has been proposed as the CECM for Trade, Industry, Tourism, Marketing and Co-operative Development. He previously served as Chief Officer in the same department and is credited with expanding cooperative membership and strengthening the sector.

Isaac Victor Ongiri has been nominated as the CECM for Governance, Administration, Communication and Devolution. He has been serving as Chief Officer and brings experience in public administration and communications, having worked in both Kisii County and Makueni County.

In the reshuffle, Dr. Joash Aloo has been reassigned to the Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Development docket, where he is expected to strengthen key value chains including cotton, sugar, maize, rice and livestock.

Governor Wanga noted that all nominees meet the integrity standards outlined in the Constitution and confirmed that their names will be forwarded to the County Assembly for vetting and approval.

She also directed the County Secretary to oversee a smooth transition process within the affected departments.

The changes are aimed at enhancing service delivery and strengthening governance structures in Homa Bay County.
