The SISI NI DOLA CUP has entered the knockout stage, with several teams battling for a place in the quarter-finals as the tournament continues to showcase some of the Coast region’s most promising football talent.
Green Eagles became the first team to secure a quarter-final spot after edging Mtwapa All Stars 1-0 in a tightly contested Round of 16 clash. The decisive goal came in the 59th minute through Paul Otieno, sealing a hard-fought victory for Green Eagles.
In another Round of 16 encounter, Goodhope FC and Likoni United played out a goalless draw in regulation time. The match was decided through a penalty shootout, where Likoni United emerged 5-3 winners to book a quarter-final showdown against Green Eagles.
Meanwhile, Nyundo FC produced one of the tournament’s standout performances by defeating Simba Apparel 3-0. Swaleh Juma opened the scoring before Joshi Ndela netted twice to send Nyundo comfortably into the last eight.
The remaining Round of 16 fixtures are set to determine the final quarter-finalists. Juve FC will face Nabada FC, with the winner earning a quarter-final clash against Nyundo FC.
Elsewhere, Alshifaa FC will take on Fetuwe FC, while Mombasa Sports Club will battle Mombasa Kings, with the winners meeting in the quarter-finals.
In the other half of the draw, Azam United will face Wananyuki FC, while Fayaz Bakers lock horns with Kombani Youth, with the winners progressing to face each other in the quarter-finals.
Coaches of the participating teams have praised the high level of competition displayed throughout the tournament, urging coaches from Kenya’s top-flight clubs to closely monitor the emerging talent on display and provide deserving young players with opportunities to compete at the highest level.
Tournament organizers have also appealed to football fans to turn out in large numbers and support the competition, saying strong fan attendance will motivate the young players and contribute to the continued growth of grassroots football in Kenya.
