An 18-year-old woman has been arrested at Ruai Police Station after she was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle tools believed to have been intended to help three suspects escape from police custody.

Christine Njoki Gitau was arrested after officers inspecting food she had brought to the station reportedly discovered a pair of pliers and a heavy-duty shear concealed beneath rice and meat.

Gitau had reportedly visited three suspects being held at the station in connection with allegations of robbery with violence and gang rape. The suspects have been identified as Emmanuel Bosire, Ismael Arisa and Brian Gatheru.

According to investigators, the three men are accused of using an anonymous TikTok account to lure young women into meetings before allegedly attacking and robbing them.

Detectives say the suspects would allegedly arrange meetings with their victims and take them to secluded locations in areas including Ruai, Embakasi and Buruburu. The victims were allegedly assaulted and robbed, with investigators further alleging that some were forced to surrender money from their M-Pesa accounts.

Police say the alleged escape attempt was foiled after a cell sentry conducted a routine inspection of the food brought to the station.

The discovery led to Gitau’s arrest as detectives launched further investigations into the alleged attempt to facilitate the suspects’ escape.

The three suspects remain in custody as investigations into the robbery and sexual assault allegations continue. Police have also been examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged TikTok network and its connection to the reported attacks.

Authorities have warned members of the public against assisting suspects to escape from lawful custody, noting that such actions may attract criminal charges under Kenyan law.

Gitau remains in custody as investigators establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. The suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
