Boxing legends Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are set to clash in a historic exhibition bout on April 25, 2026, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo). The announcement has sent shockwaves through the global boxing community, uniting two icons from different eras in a symbolic showdown on African soil.

The fight is expected to take place in Kinshasa, the capital city that famously hosted the 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle” between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. That legendary bout, held more than five decades ago, redefined boxing history and cemented Africa’s place on the global sporting stage. This upcoming exhibition aims to honor that legacy 52 years later.

The Tyson–Mayweather bout will be contested under modified exhibition rules, reportedly consisting of eight two-minute rounds with heavier gloves. These adjustments are designed to account for the age and size difference between the fighters. Tyson will be 59 at the time of the bout, while Mayweather will be 48.

Mike Tyson, known worldwide as “Iron Mike,” compiled a professional record of 50 wins and 6 losses, with 44 knockouts. He became the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history at just 20 years old. Although he retired from professional boxing in 2005, Tyson returned for a well-received exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, demonstrating that his power remains formidable.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., nicknamed “Money,” retired with a perfect professional record of 50 wins and no losses, including 27 knockouts. Renowned for his defensive mastery and ring intelligence, Mayweather dominated multiple weight divisions and defeated Conor McGregor in a highly publicized crossover bout in 2017. Since retiring officially, he has participated in several high-profile exhibition fights.

The choice of the Democratic Republic of Congo as the venue carries deep historical and cultural significance. The original “Rumble in the Jungle,” promoted by Don King and staged in Kinshasa when the country was known as Zaire, saw Muhammad Ali regain the heavyweight championship in a stunning upset. The fight transcended sport, highlighting Africa’s influence in global culture and athletics.

Government officials in DR Congo have welcomed the announcement. Vice Prime Minister Mobutu Nzanga Ngbangawe described the bout as a celebration of boxing history and a major opportunity for the country. The event is expected to boost tourism, attract international media, and inspire young athletes across the African continent.

Although the exhibition will not count toward official boxing records, it is expected to be one of the most talked-about sporting spectacles of recent years. Promoters such as CSI Sports and Fight Sports are reportedly involved, with broadcast and venue details still to be confirmed.

Fans across Africa, including in neighboring Kenya, are eagerly anticipating the bout. Whether Tyson’s raw knockout power or Mayweather’s elusive defensive brilliance prevails, the event promises a unique clash of styles and eras. As April 25, 2026 approaches, the world will be watching Kinshasa once again.
