Two suspects are in police custody after detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intercepted a vehicle transporting 154 kilograms of cannabis sativa valued at approximately Sh4.62 million.

According to investigators, the operation began along the Eldoret–Nakuru Highway after detectives received intelligence on suspected drug trafficking activities in the area.

Police identified the vehicle and signaled the driver to stop, but the occupants ignored the orders and sped off towards Subukia, prompting a high-speed pursuit.

The chase came to an end after officers successfully deflated one of the vehicle’s front tires, forcing the suspects to stop.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of seven sacks containing 154 kilograms of cannabis sativa, which police believe was destined for local distribution.

The two suspects were arrested and are being held as investigations continue.

Detectives have since commenced evidence processing procedures, including weighing and documenting the narcotics before forwarding samples for analysis by government chemists to confirm the substance.

Authorities said the chain of custody will be maintained to ensure the evidence remains admissible in court.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned before a magistrate within the statutory period and are likely to face charges related to possession and trafficking of prohibited substances.

Police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking networks operating across the country.
