President William Ruto has reshuffled key positions within the Executive Office of the President, appointing Charles Owino Wahong’o as the new Government Spokesperson in a move aimed at strengthening the government’s communication machinery.
The changes, announced through an official communication signed by Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix K. Koskei, also see Hon. Isaac M. Mwaura promoted and redesignated as the Head of the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Disability Rights under the Executive Office of the President.
Charles Owino assumes the position after serving as the Acting Head of Government Communications in the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy. In his new role, he will serve as the government’s principal spokesperson, communicating official policies, programmes and national decisions to the public.
Meanwhile, Isaac Mwaura exits the Government Spokesperson’s office after serving in the position and now takes up a new assignment focused on advancing diversity, inclusion and disability rights within government. His office is expected to champion policies aimed at promoting equal opportunities, protecting the rights of persons with disabilities and strengthening inclusion across public institutions.
The appointments were approved by President William Ruto following recommendations by the Public Service Commission as part of the government’s ongoing reorganization of senior public service positions.
“His Excellency the President has approved the redeployment and redesignation of the officers following recommendations by the Public Service Commission,” the official communication signed by Chief of Staff Felix Koskei states.
The latest changes are expected to reinforce government communication while giving renewed focus to the implementation of programmes that promote equality, inclusion and the protection of the rights of marginalized groups across the country.
