William Ruto has commended the private sector for its growing role in supporting the organization and management of the WRC Safari Rally, noting that future editions of the global motorsport event will increasingly rely on private sponsorship.
Speaking during the rally event held at Hell’s Gate National Park in Nakuru County, the President said the private sector has stepped forward to host, manage, promote and fund the prestigious competition.
He announced that the 2027 WRC Safari Rally will be fully funded by the private sector, a move expected to ease the financial burden on the government and allow more public resources to be directed toward broader sports development in Kenya.
President Ruto also addressed concerns raised by motorists regarding traffic congestion along the Nairobi–Naivasha Highway during the rally period.
He assured Kenyans that this year’s congestion will be the last of its kind, as the government is currently working on the dualling of the Rironi–Nakuru section of the Rironi–Mau Summit Road, which is expected to ease movement along the busy transport corridor.
According to the President, the infrastructure project will be completed by next year, significantly improving traffic flow between Nairobi and the Rift Valley region.
During the event, the President also congratulated the winners of the rally, Takamoto Katsuta and Aaron Johnston of Toyota Gazoo Racing, alongside other participants and sponsors who contributed to the success of the event.
The WRC Safari Rally remains one of the most prominent sporting events in Kenya, attracting international drivers, teams and fans while boosting tourism and economic activity in the region.
