President William Ruto has signed the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2024, into law, aiming to improve access to civil registration services nationwide.
The Bill, sponsored by Martha Wangari, the Member of Parliament for Gilgil Constituency, mandates the establishment of at least one births and deaths registration office in every constituency.
The new law is expected to decentralize essential services, reduce delays in issuing birth and death certificates, and improve the accuracy of national records. It also supports effective planning and service delivery by government agencies.
With presidential assent, the amendment now forms part of the laws of Kenya, marking a key step toward strengthening civil documentation and promoting national development.
