POLITICAL TENSION IN HOMA BAY AS MILLIE ODHIAMBO CLASHES WITH GOVERNOR WANGA

By Miraj Guo | May 1, 2026

Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has accused Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga of misrepresenting National Government and donor-funded projects as county achievements, escalating political tensions within the region.

Odhiambo, speaking on Friday, said she had reached her “breaking point” after what she termed prolonged political provocation and online attacks allegedly linked to the Governor’s communication team.

She warned that development projects funded by the National Government, NG-CDF and development partners must be clearly distinguished from county government initiatives to maintain transparency and accountability.

“Projects funded by the National Government or partners should not be presented to the people of Homa Bay as County Government work. It is a matter of integrity and transparency,” Odhiambo said.

The legislator further claimed that she had endured sustained political pressure and coordinated online criticism but could no longer remain silent while her record and reputation were being undermined.

She alleged that Governor Wanga’s digital communication team had been involved in smear campaigns against her, though she did not provide specific evidence.

“I have reached a point where I must defend my political stand and the work I have done for the people of Suba North,” she added.

The dispute signals growing political friction within Homa Bay leadership, where both leaders have previously been regarded as allies within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Political observers say the fallout could reshape local alliances ahead of the 2027 election cycle, as leaders across the county may be forced to take sides.

Governor Wanga had not issued a formal response to the allegations by the time of going to press.
