Kinango Boys Senior School on Friday held a colourful Prize-Giving Day ceremony attended by senior national and county leaders, as students, parents and teachers gathered to celebrate academic excellence and the school’s rising performance.
The event was attended by Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Salim Mvurya and Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani, with Kinango Member of Parliament Gonzi Rai hosting the ceremony.
Also present were Kwale Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo, Matuga MP Kassim Tandaza, county officials, Members of County Assembly and education stakeholders.
Speaking during the event, Governor Achani highlighted the county government’s investment in education through the Elimu ni Sasa initiative.
She said Kwale County has sponsored more than 16,000 secondary school students, over 6,000 university and college students, and more than 16,000 learners in vocational training institutions.
“Today, we are a proud county because of the strides we have made, particularly in the education sector. It was once a dream for a school like Kinango to produce over 200 students qualifying for direct university entry,” Achani said.
She added that the county government remained committed to ensuring no child is left behind in accessing quality education.
Cabinet Secretary Mvurya praised Kinango Boys for its strong academic progress and reaffirmed the national government’s support for the education sector.
“I congratulate the entire Kinango fraternity for this achievement. The government remains dedicated to improving education across the country. Over Sh23 billion has been allocated to schools, and more than 100,000 teachers have been employed since the current administration took office,” Mvurya said.
They emphasized the need for continued cooperation between national and county governments to improve school infrastructure and learning conditions.
School Principal Siasa Rodgers Mwafungo thanked both levels of government for sustained support, noting that bursary allocations exceeding Sh6 million had helped improve student retention and academic performance.
“We appreciate the support from the government, which has enabled our students to stay in school and perform well,” he said.
Kinango Boys Senior School posted a mean score of 7.5 in the 2025 KCSE examinations, ranking eighth in the Coastal region.
The school has since attained national school status following consistent performance over the last four years and is now targeting a mean score of 9.3 in future examinations.
The event featured cultural performances, entertainment and the presentation of trophies, certificates and awards to top-performing students.
Parents and alumni praised the annual ceremony as an important tradition that motivates learners to strive for excellence.
