The fairy tale run of BB Bread FC in the Mozzart Bet Cup came to an end on Friday after they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Kenya Police FC in a tightly contested Round of 16 clash at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.

Police FC, who have been in fine form this season, struck early through Eric Ngava Zakayo, whose 8th minute goal proved decisive in the encounter. The early breakthrough gave Police the advantage they needed, and they held firm for the remainder of the match to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

BB Bread FC, who stunned Gor Mahia F.C. in the previous round to become the talk of Kenyan football, fought bravely but were unable to replicate their heroics this time. Their exit marks the end of one of the most exciting underdog stories in this year’s tournament.

In another Round of 16 fixture played today, Tusker FC also progressed to the last eight after edging out Kariobangi Sharks F.C. 1-0 in a closely fought match.

Tusker wasted no time in asserting themselves, with Ian Simiyu finding the back of the net in just the 9th minute to hand the brewers an early lead. Despite efforts from Kariobangi Sharks to level the score, Tusker maintained their composure and saw out the game to clinch victory.

The results mean both Police FC and Tusker FC advance to the Mozzart Bet Cup quarter finals, keeping their hopes alive for domestic cup glory.

As the competition edges closer to the final stages, fans can expect more high-stakes encounters, with top teams battling it out for one of Kenya’s most prestigious knockout trophies.
