NAIROBI, KENYA — Pastor Victor Kanyari has spoken publicly about the emotional turmoil surrounding the breakdown of his marriage to gospel singer Betty Bayo, describing the difficult period that followed her departure from their matrimonial home.
Speaking in recent media appearances, the founder of Salvation Healing Ministry reflected on the intense disagreements that strained their relationship, admitting that emotions often ran high during the period leading to their separation.
According to Kanyari, tensions escalated after Betty Bayo left their home while pregnant and returned to her parents’ residence, a move he said deeply affected him and triggered anger that worsened misunderstandings between the two.
The preacher also recalled moments of confrontation linked to the marital fallout, saying one disagreement eventually resulted in him briefly spending time in police custody.
Past accounts by Betty Bayo indicated that their relationship had become increasingly strained due to frequent misunderstandings, concerns over personal boundaries, and the pressures associated with Kanyari’s demanding church commitments.
Despite attempts at reconciliation — including intervention from family members — the couple was ultimately unable to resolve their differences, leading to a permanent separation.
Even after the collapse of their marriage and years of public scrutiny following the controversial 2014 exposé involving Kanyari’s ministry, the two maintained a co-parenting relationship centered around their children.
Following Betty Bayo’s death in November 2025 after a battle with leukaemia, Kanyari publicly paid tribute to his former wife and apologized for the painful experiences linked to their turbulent past, acknowledging the impact that public controversies surrounding his ministry had on her life.
The renewed revelations have sparked public conversations around celebrity marriages, reconciliation, and the emotional toll of high-profile relationships in the public eye.
