ERONGE, KISII COUNTY — Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Monday inspected the ongoing Esamba Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project in Kitutu Chache North Constituency, reaffirming the government’s commitment to achieving universal electricity access across Kenya within the next three to four years.
The project, located in Matongo Sub-location, Monyerero Ward, is expected to connect 131 households, businesses, and public institutions to electricity at a cost of KSh 9.8 million.
Speaking during the inspection exercise in Eronge, Kindiki said the initiative forms part of a broader KSh 2 billion electricity connectivity programme currently being implemented across Kisii County to connect an additional 20,000 households to the national power grid.
“The government remains committed to ensuring every household has access to electricity as part of our national development agenda. Kenya’s electrification rate currently stands at 66 per cent, one of the highest on the African continent, and we are working towards universal connectivity in the next few years,” Kindiki stated.
The Deputy President noted that expanded electricity access would improve livelihoods, support small businesses, enhance education, and boost economic activities in rural communities.
He inspected the works alongside Kitutu Chache North MP Japhet Nyakundi, Nyaribari Chache MP Dr. Daniel Manduku, Kisii Woman Representative Dorice Donya, Nominated Senator Elsie Okenyuri, Members of County Assembly (MCAs), and other local leaders.
Following the inspection, Kindiki addressed residents and updated them on various government development programmes underway in the region, saying the administration remains focused on improving infrastructure and service delivery to uplift the living standards of wananchi.
