Pastor Kanyari in Emotional Plea Over Custody Dispute as He Laments Separation From Children

Salvation Healing Ministry founder Pastor Victor Kanyari has publicly shared his emotional anguish following an escalating custody dispute involving his two children, Sky and Danny, in the aftermath of the death of his former wife, gospel musician Betty Bayo.

Speaking during a Sunday sermon and subsequent online broadcasts, the preacher appeared visibly distressed as he reflected on what he described as the painful reality of being unable to access his biological children during a period he considers especially significant for fathers.

“This Father’s Day is one of the saddest days of my life. While many fathers are celebrating with their children, I continue to live with the pain of being denied access to mine,” Kanyari said.

He further expressed frustration over what he termed as deliberate obstruction from individuals currently caring for the children, questioning how a biological parent could be separated from his offspring after the death of their mother.

“In my life, I fail to understand how a fellow man can deny you your biological children whose mother is no longer alive,” he added.

Despite his emotional remarks, Kanyari emphasized that he had chosen restraint in handling the matter, stating that he had avoided confrontation in favour of pursuing a peaceful resolution.

“There is the father who sired them and the one who raised them. We are two fathers. That is why I did not rush. I am not a violent person. If I wanted conflict, I would have gone there with people and demanded my children. But I did not want war,” he said.

The children’s stepfather, Hiram Gitau—also known as Tash—has, however, maintained that he remains the primary caregiver and guardian of the children, arguing that his role in their upbringing gives him continued responsibility over their welfare.

“When I married Betty Bayo, I married her along with these children, so I cannot hand them over to Kanyari. I raised these children myself, and if he wants to see them, he will have to come and see them with me,” Tash stated.

The dispute has drawn public attention following the death of Betty Bayo in November 2025 after a battle with blood cancer. The singer had previously co-parented the children with Kanyari, with arrangements appearing stable until her passing shifted custody dynamics within the family.

Since then, Kanyari has alleged that communication channels were blocked and that he has been denied access to the children, further claiming that their welfare, including school fees and upkeep, has become a growing concern.

The cleric has also indicated that he intends to pursue full legal custody of Sky and Danny, stating that he has already identified a residence in Runda valued at approximately Sh90 million, which he says is intended to provide a stable and suitable environment for the children.

The matter continues to spark public debate on custody rights, step-parent guardianship, and the legal complexities that arise following the death of a custodial parent.
