Over 170 Beekeepers Trained in Lungalunga, Kwale county to Boost Honey Production and Family Income

More than 170 beekeepers from 24 villages in the Lungalunga area have received training on modern beekeeping, honey production, and marketing in a program aimed at improving livelihoods and supporting families economically.

The training was organized by KidsCare  in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mombasa Downtown. The initiative focuses on empowering local communities to generate income through beekeeping while helping parents meet the needs of their children.

According to the organizers, many of the beneficiaries come from vulnerable families, and the project seeks to ensure parents can afford essential needs such as education, food, and healthcare for their children.

Speaking during the training, George Baya the Executive Director of KidsCare emphasized that economic empowerment plays a major role in protecting children’s rights.

“There are basic rights of a child such as the right to education, and for these rights to be achieved there must be financial stability. That is why teaching families how to earn income through beekeeping is very important,” Baya said.

Residents who took part in the program said honey production in the area has increased significantly. However, they appealed to the government to help them access reliable markets for their honey and to make it easier to obtain quality certification permits for their products.

They noted that with proper support, beekeeping could become a major source of income for many households in the region.

The program is expected to strengthen household incomes while promoting sustainable agriculture in rural parts of Kwale County.

Organizers say continued training and market support will help farmers expand honey production and improve the living standards of families across the coastal region.
