Orengo Storms Police Station, Issues Ultimatum Over Osotsi Assault Probe

KISUMU, KENYA — James Orengo on Thursday led a high-powered delegation to Kisumu Central Police Station, demanding immediate action over what he termed as a slow and compromised investigation into the brutal assault of Godfrey Osotsi.

The Governor’s dramatic visit comes less than 24 hours after Senator Osotsi was attacked by armed individuals at a café within West End Mall, sparking public outrage and protests in parts of Western Kenya.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting with regional security officials, Orengo accused unnamed “higher offices” of interfering with the investigation, claiming the delay in arrests was unjustified despite the availability of clear evidence.

“It is a shame that in a city with a heavy police presence, a Senator can be trailed, cornered, and attacked while authorities appear to do nothing.”

Orengo pointed out that CCTV footage capturing the suspects has already circulated widely, raising concerns over why no arrests had been made.

He further described the incident as a calculated political attack rather than an isolated act of violence.

“This was premeditated thuggery meant to silence voices. It cannot be treated as a normal criminal incident.”

The Siaya Governor also confirmed that Senator Osotsi had been airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment following the attack.

According to medical reports, the legislator sustained serious head injuries, including deep cuts and blunt force trauma, with doctors monitoring his condition closely despite being stable.

The visit culminated in a strong warning to security agencies, including the Inspector General of Police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

“If no one is behind bars within 24 hours, we will mobilize. We cannot allow impunity to take root in this country.”

The ultimatum has heightened tensions in the region, with Kisumu Central Police Station placed under heavy security as authorities race to identify and apprehend those behind the attack.

The incident has further intensified the national conversation around political intolerance and security accountability ahead of the 2027 General Election.
