Machakos, Kenya — Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Monday arrived at Machakos Golf Club, marking the start of a five-day tour of the Ukambani region by opposition leaders.

The visit, hosted by Kalonzo Musyoka, brings together key figures including Rigathi Gachagua, Martha Karua and Eugene Wamalwa.

Addressing local leaders and residents, the delegation outlined plans focused on economic recovery and regional development as part of a broader opposition strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The leaders described the tour as the first phase of a nationwide “Komboa Kenya” campaign aimed at building support and presenting an alternative political agenda.

“We are here to listen to the people of Ukambani and to ensure that our roadmap for the country is driven by the needs of wananchi,” a coalition spokesperson said.

The Machakos meeting marks the beginning of a series of engagements, including town hall sessions and rallies across the region.

The opposition group, recently rebranded as the United Alternative Government, is expected to extend similar engagements to the Coast and Western regions in the coming weeks.
