The Acting Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Catherine Omanyo, has officially announced that she will defend the Secretary General position at the party’s delegates’ conference scheduled for March 27.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated meeting, Omanyo said she is ready to face competitors and protect the mandate entrusted to her, stressing that leadership requires firmness, consistency, and accountability.
Addressing critics, she dismissed claims that she is being used against Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, saying such assertions are politically motivated and meant to undermine her. She maintained that her decision to contest is independent and driven by her commitment to serve the party rather than by factional interests.
“I will not step aside. On March 27, my name will be on the ballot. I cannot remain a deputy when I clearly see how things are being organised,” Omanyo said.
She further assured supporters that she is aware of the responsibilities attached to the office and is fully prepared to deliver if elected.
“I understand the weight of this office, and if given the opportunity, I will serve with integrity, transparency, and unwavering commitment to the party and its members,” she stated.
Her declaration comes at a time when competition for top positions within ODM is intensifying, as various leaders position themselves ahead of the delegates’ conference, which is expected to influence the party’s leadership structure. The Secretary General post remains one of the most strategic offices in the party, playing a central role in implementing party decisions, making this contest a key moment in ODM’s internal politics.
