Aisha Jumwa Intensifies Criticism of Kilifi Governor Over Stalled Projects

By Joyce Kifalu Zawadi | February 21, 2026

Chairperson of the National Roads Board and Kilifi gubernatorial aspirant Aisha Jumwa has intensified her criticism of Gideon Mung’aro, accusing him of failing to effectively lead Kilifi County and address stalled development projects.

Jumwa questioned why the county government delayed action on incomplete projects despite having funding and legal mechanisms in place, arguing that decisive leadership was lacking.

“Let me ask you, all this time when you came into office and found those projects stalled — if they were truly a priority and you have been receiving funds, and the law is there — didn’t you see the need to act?” she posed.
“Why is it that only after four years you are now saying you want to cancel projects and start building stalled hospitals, dispensaries, ECD centres and so on? He is still making promises. I want to tell you that Mung’aro has been overwhelmed by the leadership of Kilifi.”

She maintained that the current county administration has not fully implemented development projects initiated earlier, saying residents continue to suffer due to incomplete infrastructure and delayed service delivery.

According to Jumwa, stalled and incomplete projects have significantly slowed development in the county, denying residents access to essential services.

Her remarks come after Governor Mung’aro announced plans to scrap some projects that stalled before he assumed office, with the intention of redirecting resources toward new initiatives, including the construction of hospitals, dispensaries, and Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres.
