MARSABIT, Kenya
The National Police Service (NPS) has successfully intercepted stolen livestock in Marsabit County following a fierce gun battle between security officers and armed criminals in the remote terrains of Loiyangalani Sub-County.
The operation was carried out by a joint team of security personnel as part of ongoing efforts to combat livestock theft and enhance security in the region.
According to the NPS, officers acted on intelligence reports and tracked the stolen animals to a remote area where they encountered the armed suspects. The criminals engaged the security team in a shootout, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Despite the resistance, the officers managed to overpower the suspects and successfully recover the stolen livestock. The criminals fled the scene as security personnel secured the animals and took control of the area.
The operation forms part of broader government efforts to address livestock rustling and related criminal activities that continue to affect pastoral communities in northern Kenya.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that security operations against armed criminal groups will continue across the region.
The recovered livestock is expected to be returned to its rightful owners following the necessary identification and verification procedures.
Investigations are ongoing as security agencies pursue the suspects who escaped during the confrontation.
