Siaya Senator and ODM leader Oburu Oginga has stated that the broad-based political arrangement between the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) remains in force and will continue until 2027.
Speaking during the first joint UDA–ODM Parliamentary Group meeting held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Oginga said the broad-based arrangement began long before the introduction of the Ten-Point Agenda, adding that the agenda was only meant to strengthen the cooperation between the two political parties.
“The broad-based arrangement cannot depend on the Ten-Point Agenda. The Ten-Point Agenda was meant to strengthen the broad-based arrangement,” said Oginga.
He further explained that March 7, which had been slated as the date for presenting a report on the progress of the agreement, was not meant to mark the end of the arrangement but was simply a milestone for reviewing progress.
His remarks come after embattled ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna claimed that March 7 marked the final day of the broad-based arrangement and that there was no formal agreement extending it beyond that date.
The broad-based arrangement was formed following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ODM and UDA under the Ten-Point Agenda on March 7, 2025.
The agreement came in the wake of the 2024 Kenyan Gen Z Protests in June 2024, which triggered a political crisis and pushed the government to seek political cooperation.
As part of the arrangement, President William Samoei Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga agreed to work together in forming what was described as a broad-based government.
During the joint parliamentary group meeting at KICC, members from both UDA and ODM also agreed to extend the mandate of the oversight committee by 60 days to allow it to finalize outstanding issues under the Ten-Point Agenda.
