The National Museums of Kenya (NMK) has invited eligible contractors to submit bids for the construction of a proposed Raila Odinga Mausoleum and the renovation of the existing Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum in Bondo Sub-County, Siaya County.
The project, listed under Tender No. NMK/T/03/RAO/MAUS/2025-2026, seeks to preserve the historical and political legacy of the Odinga family while enhancing the site’s role as a cultural and heritage destination.
According to the tender notice, interested bidders can obtain tender documents at the National Museums of Kenya headquarters on Museum Hill in Nairobi upon payment of a non-refundable fee of Sh1,000. The documents are also available for free download from the institution’s official website.
A mandatory pre-bid site meeting has been scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, the Odinga family home in Bondo.
Completed bid documents are expected to be submitted to the office of the Director General of the National Museums of Kenya by noon on Thursday, June 25, 2026, after which the bids will be opened publicly.
The project comprises two major components. The first involves the construction of a new mausoleum dedicated to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, aimed at preserving and commemorating his political legacy and contribution to the country.
The second component focuses on the modernization and refurbishment of the existing Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Mausoleum, which currently serves both as a memorial site and a community museum dedicated to Kenya’s first Vice President.
Officials say the initiative is intended to strengthen the preservation of national heritage and provide future generations with an opportunity to learn about the contributions of two of Kenya’s most prominent political figures.
The project is expected to enhance cultural tourism in Siaya County while reinforcing the historical significance of Kang’o Ka Jaramogi as one of the country’s key heritage sites.
