NAIROBI, KENYA — Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has called on retired presidents to refrain from interfering with the operations of the sitting government, emphasizing the need for national unity and institutional harmony.

Speaking on the matter, Mwaura said former heads of state should allow the current administration to execute its mandate without disruption, urging them to take on a more supportive and advisory role.

“Retired leaders should focus on constructive contributions to society rather than engaging in active political disputes,” Mwaura stated.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining open and respectful communication, noting that any disagreements should be addressed through proper dialogue rather than public confrontation.

The spokesperson also pointed to examples of former presidents globally who have remained influential by engaging in community development and mentorship, without directly interfering in governance.

Mwaura’s remarks come amid ongoing public debate over the role of retired leaders in Kenya’s political landscape, particularly as tensions continue to emerge between past and present administrations.

The comments add to a growing conversation on how former heads of state can balance their constitutional freedoms with the expectations tied to their legacy and status in national leadership.
