Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has called on Kenyans to unite in rebuilding the country, promising to restore safety, stability and public confidence in leadership amid growing concerns over governance and the rising cost of living.
Speaking during a public engagement, Matiang’i said the country is in urgent need of honest, accountable and people-centered leadership that places the interests of ordinary citizens first.
“We will work together to restore safety, stability and public trust in the leadership of our country,” said Matiang’i as he urged Kenyans to embrace unity, peace and national cohesion.
The former Interior CS noted that many Kenyans are struggling with economic hardships, insecurity and a loss of confidence in public institutions, adding that strong leadership is needed to steer the country toward recovery and development.
Matiang’i emphasized the importance of strengthening government institutions, protecting the rule of law and ensuring leaders remain accountable to the people. He said restoring trust between citizens and those in authority is essential for national progress and peaceful coexistence.
He further urged leaders across the political divide to avoid divisive politics and instead focus on issues affecting wananchi, including unemployment, high living costs and access to essential services.
According to Matiang’i, Kenya’s future depends on collective responsibility, inclusivity and a leadership culture built on integrity, transparency and service delivery.
His remarks come at a time when political debate continues to intensify across the country, with leaders positioning themselves ahead of the next general election while wananchi continue to demand solutions to pressing socio-economic challenges.
