Jubilee Party presidential candidate and Deputy Party Leader Dr. Fred Matiang’i on Monday hosted leaders of the Linda Mwananchi movement at the party headquarters in Nairobi for a high-level consultative meeting aimed at strengthening opposition unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The meeting brought together key figures from the Linda Mwananchi movement, including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi and Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo.
The leaders held discussions focused on building a broad-based opposition coalition capable of mounting a strong challenge against President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration in the next general election.
Speaking after the meeting, the leaders acknowledged that a divided opposition would struggle to overcome the advantages enjoyed by the incumbent administration.
Suba South MP Caroli Omondi said the consultations are intended to harmonize various opposition formations, including the Jubilee Party and the Edwin Sifuna-backed Linda Mwananchi movement, into a single political platform.
“The objective is to crystallize the various opposition groups into one formidable movement that can provide Kenyans with an alternative leadership in 2027,” Omondi said.
A major focus of the discussions was the planned joint political tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties scheduled for June 26, with leaders seeking to consolidate support in the Gusii region while strengthening national opposition structures.
Matiang’i’s allies, among them Senator Onyonka and MP Gisairo, are expected to play a central role in mobilizing support during the tour as efforts intensify to rally the region behind broader opposition initiatives.
Siaya Governor James Orengo emphasized the importance of unity, urging opposition leaders to prioritize building a strong and inclusive political platform rather than engaging in early contests over the presidential ticket.
Orengo said the opposition should focus on accommodating all major players, including Dr. Matiang’i and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, in order to present a united front capable of challenging the current administration.
The meeting signals growing efforts among opposition leaders to forge strategic alliances and strengthen regional support bases as political activity ahead of the 2027 polls continues to gather momentum.
