Jubilee Democratic Party (DPL) leader Dr. Fred Matiang’i on Friday held a consultative meeting with residents of Keumbu in Kisii County before attending the burial of Vincent Osiemo, who lost his life during the recent attack on the Linda Mwananchi motorcade along the Kisii–Keroka Road.
The meeting brought together local residents, community leaders and supporters who turned up to receive the former Interior Cabinet Secretary as he continued his engagements in the region. During the interaction, Matiang’i listened to residents’ concerns and reiterated the importance of peaceful political engagement, unity and respect for the rule of law.
After the public engagement, Matiang’i proceeded to the funeral of Vincent Osiemo, whose death during the motorcade attack has continued to generate national attention and renewed debate over political violence and public safety during political activities.
Hundreds of mourners, including family members, friends, political leaders and residents, gathered to pay their last respects to Osiemo, remembering him as a committed member of the community whose life was cut short under tragic circumstances.
Addressing mourners, leaders present at the funeral called for thorough investigations into the attack, urging security agencies to ensure that those responsible are identified and prosecuted. They emphasized that no Kenyan should lose their life because of political differences and appealed for tolerance among leaders and their supporters.
The Linda Mwananchi motorcade attack along the Kisii–Keroka Road sparked widespread condemnation from leaders across the political divide, with many calling for restraint and peaceful conduct as the country gradually heads towards the 2027 General Election.
The incident has also raised concerns over the security of political gatherings and campaign activities, prompting renewed calls for law enforcement agencies to enhance protection during public events and ensure the safety of both leaders and members of the public.
During his interaction with Keumbu residents, Matiang’i underscored the need for national unity and peaceful coexistence, encouraging citizens to reject violence and embrace dialogue in resolving political differences. He also urged residents to remain hopeful and actively participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic means.
Residents who attended the meeting expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the Jubilee DPL leader, raising issues affecting the region and calling for continued consultations between leaders and the public.
The burial ceremony was marked by prayers, tributes and messages of condolence to Osiemo’s family, with speakers describing him as a dedicated individual whose untimely death had left a significant void in the community.
As investigations into the Kisii–Keroka Road attack continue, leaders have maintained their calls for justice for the victims while urging Kenyans to uphold peace, unity and mutual respect regardless of political affiliation.
The funeral concluded with renewed appeals for calm and a commitment from those in attendance to honour the memory of Vincent Osiemo by promoting peaceful political participation and rejecting all forms of violence.
