Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled the Democracy for the Citizens Party’s (DCP) ambitious political blueprint to field candidates in all 47 counties during the 2027 General Election, as the party intensifies efforts to establish itself as a formidable national political force.
The announcement marks a significant milestone in DCP’s preparations for the next general election, with the party signaling its intention to contest elective positions across the country rather than concentrating its campaigns in traditional political strongholds. Gachagua said the strategy reflects the party’s commitment to offering Kenyans a national alternative founded on inclusive leadership, accountability and people-centred governance.
Speaking during his ongoing grassroots consultations, the former Deputy President said DCP is laying the foundation for a nationwide political movement capable of competing effectively for seats at every level of government. He noted that the party is targeting the presidency, governorships, senatorial seats, women representative positions, National Assembly constituencies and county assembly wards in all parts of the country.
According to Gachagua, the party has already embarked on an extensive grassroots mobilization campaign aimed at strengthening its structures from the village level to the national leadership. The exercise includes recruiting members, establishing county and constituency offices, appointing interim officials and identifying credible candidates who will carry the party’s banner in the 2027 polls.
He said DCP’s leadership is committed to ensuring that every county has a well-organized political network capable of mobilizing supporters, engaging local communities and articulating the party’s policies and development agenda.
The former Deputy President emphasized that the party’s vision goes beyond winning elections, stating that it seeks to build an institution that will promote good governance, economic transformation and equitable development across the country. He maintained that DCP intends to champion policies that address the high cost of living, unemployment among young people, agricultural productivity, quality healthcare, education and improved service delivery.
Gachagua also reiterated that the party is committed to empowering grassroots leadership by giving ordinary Kenyans an opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s political future. He encouraged professionals, youth, women, business leaders and community representatives to join DCP and contribute to building what he described as a broad-based national movement.
The announcement comes as Gachagua continues holding consultative meetings with opinion leaders, professionals, religious leaders, youth groups, business communities and grassroots representatives at his Wamunyoro residence and in various parts of the country. The engagements form part of a broader political strategy aimed at gathering public views on governance, leadership and national development ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said the consultations are helping the party understand the challenges facing different regions while providing an opportunity to develop policies that respond to the needs of citizens. According to Gachagua, the feedback collected during the meetings will play a key role in shaping DCP’s manifesto and development agenda.
Political observers view the decision to field candidates in all 47 counties as one of the boldest declarations made by the party since its formation. They argue that the move demonstrates DCP’s intention to evolve into a truly national political outfit capable of competing with established parties across the country.
