The Linda Mwananchi movement has shifted its campaign activities to Nyahururu Town as it intensifies its final mobilisation efforts ahead of the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election scheduled for Thursday, July 16, 2026.
The move comes after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua publicly warned political groups from outside the constituency against participating in campaigns for the mini-poll, arguing that the contest should be left to local leaders allied to his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP).
Following the warning, the Edwin Sifuna-led movement shelved its planned activities in Ol Kalou and redirected its political engagements to neighbouring Nyahururu, where it continued rallying supporters while maintaining its presence in the wider region.
The Nyahururu meetings are expected to serve as the movement’s final large-scale mobilisation exercise before the official campaign period for the by-election comes to a close.
Linda Mwananchi leaders are seeking to consolidate support, engage residents on governance issues and strengthen the movement’s growing influence ahead of the vote, even as political competition intensifies in the Mt Kenya region.
The change in strategy also comes at a time when the Jubilee Party has formally expressed interest in working with the movement.
Speaking earlier on today, Jubilee Secretary General Moitalel ole Kenta invited the Linda Mwananchi team to consider forming a political alliance, saying the party remained open to partnerships aimed at strengthening the opposition and promoting national unity.
The invitation has added a new dimension to the opposition’s evolving political landscape, with analysts closely watching whether the movement will embrace closer cooperation with Jubilee or continue charting an independent political course.
The Nyahururu campaign events are therefore expected to provide an opportunity for Linda Mwananchi leaders to outline their political direction and respond to growing calls for a united opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election.
As campaigns enter their final stages, attention is also shifting to preparations for Thursday’s by-election.
The Ministry of Interior is expected to enhance security across Ol Kalou Constituency by deploying additional police officers and other security personnel to safeguard voters, election officials and political stakeholders throughout the exercise.
Authorities have repeatedly appealed to political leaders and their supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns and avoid actions that could undermine public order before, during and after polling day.
Political observers are also awaiting the response of key Linda Mwananchi figures, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, regarding Jubilee’s alliance proposal and the movement’s long-term strategy as opposition realignments continue to gather momentum.
The Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, occasioned by the death of former area MP David Kiaraho, has attracted significant national attention and is widely viewed as an important political contest that could shape alliances and influence the country’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
