NAIROBI, KENYA — The Linda Mwananchi movement has said it will proceed with its planned nationwide grassroots mobilization despite what it described as increasing intimidation.
Speaking after a consultative meeting in Nairobi on Monday, leaders of the movement confirmed that preparations for an upcoming rally in Nakuru are complete.
James Orengo, who is part of the movement’s leadership, said the group remains committed to its agenda.
“We are not backing down. Our mission to defend the rights of the common mwananchi is unstoppable,” he said.
The meeting, which brought together key figures including Babu Owino, focused on reviewing strategy and finalizing logistics for the Nakuru rally scheduled for Sunday, April 19.
The leaders also raised concerns over recent security incidents, citing what they termed as threats targeting opposition figures.
They specifically condemned an alleged attack on Godfrey Osotsi and called on security agencies to take action.
The group urged Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo to ensure the safety of political leaders, warning that the government would be held accountable for any further incidents.
Following the Nakuru event, the movement is expected to hold another rally in Kisumu on April 26 as part of its ongoing mobilization efforts.
The developments come amid heightened political activity across the country, with both government and opposition groups intensifying engagements ahead of future political contests.
